Here are two examples of two Alternative music magazine both displaying conventions of a magazine. The artist featured on the front is generally the featured artists on the double page spread. Also a convention used is the use of 3-4 monochromatic colours on the front of the magazine and also follow that throughout the whole magazine.
Music Magazine Genre
The music genre I'm choosing for my magazine is Indie Rock originally Alternate Rock this is genre of music that came about in the 80's American underground scene and that was made popular in the 90's with such bands as The Strokes, Nirvana and Pearl Jam, And their British counter parts Blur, Pulp and The Cure This is a genre of music that descended from punk Rock, and other genres such as New Wave and Post Punk. What is unique to Alternate Rock is that non of the band/artists that fit under this genre have been part a large/major record label at the beginning of their career. In-stead signing for an independent record label often their own. Which gave it it's British name Indie Rock, 'Indie' standing for independent. Which later adopted as the American genre too. The success of this genre was majorly limited through out the early 70's late 80's but was made popular by the emergance of such sub-genres as Britpop and Grunge. I am choosing this genre as I believe that it is a form of music that is popular with my target audience 16-21 year old. like the punk era is was about not conforming to the pressures of society and rebelling against State, this category still holds these princples not so much towards politics, but toward major record labels and generic sound, and by being part of an independent record label they can do it their own way and not conform to norms and trends of mass produced music. Also this is a type of music that I enjoy and this will be shown through my work.
